The Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) attended the 21st Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (UNCCPCJ), held in Vienna, Austria, during April 23-27, 2012. President Kim also met with the representatives of the College for Criminal Law Science (CCLS) of Beijing Normal University and the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI) to discuss recent activities and research of each institute and lay the groundwork for future cooperation. President Kim extended an invitation to Prof. Zhao Bingzhi, Dean of CCLS, and Mr. Tatsuya Sakuma, Director of UNAFEI, to attend the upcoming ACS 2012. KIC, CCLS of Beijing Normal University and UNAFEI are the three Asian member institutes of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network of Institutes (UNPNI), a group consisting of UNODC and 17 institutes in relevant fields with the common objective of assisting the international community in strengthening international cooperation in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. KIC has been a member since 2004 and CCLS joined in 2011 as UNPNI’s newest member. For UNAFEI, one of the earliest members of the UNPNI family, this year marks the 50th anniversary of its foundation.
