On May 15th, 2020, the Korean Institute of Criminology, in conjunction with the Korea Association of Police Science, the Presidential Committee on Autonomy and Decentralization, the Korean National Police Agency, and the Korean Institute of Public Administration, held a joint academic seminar on the theme, “Major challenges and solutions for the successful implementation of the Municipal Police System” at the Korea Press Center located in Seoul, Korea. Among the agenda were public perception and expectations on the local autonomous police system, collaborative studies on successful implementation of the system, checks on the system on the principles of democracy, and analyses on issues surrounding the financial circumstances of local governments.
