The Launch of the Cybercrime Research Unit (CRU)

The International Center for Criminal Justice of the Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) has launched the Cybercrime Research Unit (CRU), a group of cybercrime experts formed to conduct research on cybercrimes and develop practical plans on global cybercrime. The issue of cybercrime has become of critical importance at a global level. The United Nation is in the process of preparing for an International Convention on Cybercrime. Recently, UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov announced that the Office the initiation of a comprehensive study on the problem of cybercrime and the responses to it at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The CRU aims to promote of research and development of a substantive agenda on the global cybercrime. Domestically, the unit will play a leading role in conducting research and supporting the legislative body and related agencies to draw up bills and regulations by providing documents on cybercrime trends in Republic of Korea. The CRU will also facilitate the exchange of information among academic institutions and agencies.
