The Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) and the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control, affiliated with the United Nations (HEUNI) have jointly published Blue Criminology: The power of United Nations ideas to counter crime globally - A monographic study under the authorship of Dr. Slawomir Marek Redo. The author, Dr. Redo (Ph.D. in law) worked for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in the Justice Section, Division for Operations, from 1981 to 2011. As a Senior Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Expert, he has worked on research implementing the UN crime prevention and criminal justice standards and norms around the world. Among the efforts, Dr. Redo has worked with the KIC on the Virtual Forum against Cybercrime (VFAC), a KIC-UNODC project providing online training courses to law enforcement officers in Southeast Asian and African countries for effective cybercrime control. The joint publication sets forth an analysis on the question of whether the UN criminological and academic ideas permeate or complement one another, or create added value at large. While the book encourages academics and practitioners to contemplate on the role of the UN Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program in its common fight against crime, it also intends to contribute to the preparations for the upcoming 13th UN Congress which will be held in Qatar in 2015. The publication includes a DVD containing guidance note, movie, documentaries and a photo album. The KIC, UNODC, and HEUNI will continue their cooperative efforts within the UNPNI framework.
