Three researchers of the Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) took part in National Experts Workshop on Legislation to Counter Cybercrime and Uses of ICT for Terrorism Purposes, held by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 19 to 22 June 2012, in the Philippines. The purpose of the Philippines National Experts' Workshop is to bring together national stakeholders in pursuit of preparing a national legislation to counter cybercrime and the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for terrorism purposes. On the first day of the workshop, Dr. Lee Won Sang of the KIC gave a presentation on the general overview of cybercrime in the Republic of Korea and the international legal and regional framework related to cybercrime and security. Participants from countries across the world showed interest in the presentation as Korea has advanced Information and Communication Technology infrastructure and the largest number of broadband subscribers. There were numerous inquiries about Korea’s legislations to prevent and respond to cybercrime that takes advantages of the Internet and other communication technologies.
