Korean Institute of Criminology Held the First KIC Expert Group Meeting

Under the theme of “Access to Justice” in South Korea, Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) hosted the first KIC Expert Group Meeting (EGM) with Dr. Liv Tørres, the director of the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, located in New York, the United States in order to strengthen the international cooperation network on Thursday, June 26th 2020. The Pathfinders are a group of 36 UN member states, international organizations, global partnerships, civil society and the private sector. The Pathfinders works to accelerate action to implement the SDG targets for peace, justice and inclusion (SDG16+), update the Roadmap for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, and develop measurable change against the SDG16+ targets in Pathfinder countries. The meeting focused on the following issues raised by the Pathfinders: (1) factors of a successful quarantine process by the Korean government against COVID-19; (2) cases of human rights violations such as discrimination and exclusion during the quarantine process; (3) the trend of major criminal activities after the outbreak; and (4) the petition system and KIC’s efforts to strengthen access to justice.
