On October 28th 2020, Korean Institute of Criminology held a joint academic conference with the SNU Law Research Institute, Kyung Hee University Legal Research Institute, the Academy for Korean Studies and German Embassy in Seoul under the theme of ‘Rectifying Past Wrongs and Remembrance Culture in Korea and Germany’ in the Choi Jong-Gil Memorial Hall of the School of Law at Seoul National University. The conference was organized in an effort to reflect on Germany’s experience that prioritizes the rectification of past misdeeds and a culture of remembrance for victims, and Korea’s task to eradicate deep- rooted irregularities. Dr. Harkmo Park, research fellow of Korean Institute of Criminology took part in the conference as a discussant, Dr. Kyunggyu Park, research fellow of Korean Institute of Criminology delivered a presentation titled ‘The 40th Anniversary of the 5.18 Democratic Uprising and the task of memory - Unveiling the truth and the tasks of Criminal Law for remembrance’.
