KIC signs MOU with US National Institute of Justice

On Thursday, November 14th, 2019, the Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and Collaboration with the United States National Institute of Justice of the United States Department of Justice at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California. During the MOU signing ceremony moderated by Deputy U.S. Attorney Ms. Stephanie Hinds, Dr. In Sup Han and Dr. David B. Muhlhausen, KIC President and NIJ Director, delivered ceremony remarks celebrating the important milestone in the relationship between their respective institutes. Noting that this year marks the 30th anniversary of KIC’s founding, President Han told that he took pride in robust partnership that has been forged since 2005 and further strengthened particularly since the visit of Director Muhlhausen to Seoul, Korea in 2017. President Han expressed his confidence that both institutes would leverage and complement each other’s strength and advantage in improving the understanding on crime and justice issues. Director Muhlhausen also told that he witnessed outstanding research and work of KIC researchers and expressed his firm belief that both institutes would further explore opportunities to conduct scientific and evidence-based research in criminal justice and advance fair administration of justice. Through the MOU, both institutes laid a framework for expanding cooperation and are expected to collaborate in the sixteen fields of mutual interests ranging from recidivism, crime victimization, terrorism, drugs crime to investigation, prosecution and sentencing.
