23 researchers and staff from the Korean Institute of Criminology, led by the president Kim Il-su, visited a privately run detention facility, Somang Detention Center, on March 20th (Tuesday). The visit was arranged to take a look around facilities of the private detention center and look at the management and operation of it compared to the state-run ones. Before the center was established, all correctional facilities had been operated by the Korean government.
