President of the KIC and Researchers visit Schools of Law in China

Prof. emer. Dr. jur. Kim Il-su, the president of the Korea Institute of Criminology visited China from June 18th to 26th, 2012 for nine days to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with law schools, give a lecture as an invited speaker and encourage Chinese scholars to participate in the 4th Annual Conference of Asian Criminological Society which the KIC hosts together with the Asian Criminological Society. The president was accompanied by five KIC researchers: Dr. Shin Euigi: Dr. Park Kyungrae: and Gang Sukgu. Involved schools were the College for Criminal Law Science of Beijing Normal University (CCLS), Law School of Renmin University, Law School of Wuhan University, and Jilin University School of Law. The president extended the existing MOU with the College for Criminal Law Science of Beijing Normal University (CCLS) on the first day before he lectured on “Implication and Purpose of Punishment by Nation” as an invited lecture on the following day. The representatives of the KIC visited the Law School of Renmin University on June 20, 2012. President Kim gave a lecture on criminal law and had a meeting with professors of the University. On the fourth day of visit, after the president of the KIC Kim concluded an MOU with the Law School of Wuhan University, he and researchers participated in an academic seminar held by the Wuhan University. At the seminar, President Kim gave a lecture on “Social Transformation & the Improvement of Criminal Law Theory & Criminal Justice.” On the last day, they visited the Jilin University School of Law and signed the MOU for further cooperation and academic exchanges with the schools. During his visit, president Kim signed the MOUs with two academic institutes and extended an MOU with one of the institutes at large. He and the researchers’ visit to China laid a foundation for promoting cooperation based on academic and human exchanges, and joint seminars. As a sign of expanded cooperation with those schools, Prof. Mo Hongsian of Wuhan University gave his word to take part in the 4th Annual Conference of Asian Criminological Society.
