The Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) had its staff reorganization. President Sang-Ok Park structured the former 3-center system (Convergent Criminal Law Research Center; Crime Trends & Statistics Center; and International Center for Criminal Justice) into 3-divisions-and-2-center system (Crime & Crime Prevention Research Division; Economic & Commercial Crime Research Division; Judicial & Criminal Justice Research Division; Crime Trends & Statistics Center; and International Center for Criminal Justice) and announced the rearrangement of staff accordingly. One of the major standouts from the reorganization is that the former ‘Centers’ are now specified into ‘Divisions’ in accordance with their specialized fields of research. In addition, what used to be classified as the supporting centers in charge of the statistical researches and the international cooperation now function as the professionalized centers. Along with this reorganization, ‘International Center for Criminal Justice’ was assigned to mainly focus on developing new research projects, networking, and enhancing cooperative exchanges with other organizations in the field of the international criminal justice, including the United Nations. The reorganization was based on the roles and functions of each division and center, through which the KIC envisions to take one step further in gaining trust and becoming a major research institute which prioritizes national and international safety.
