The 14th UN Crime Congress Opens in Kyoto, Japan in Hybrid Format

The 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice was held in hybrid format in Kyoto, Japan from March 7 to 12, 2021. The UN Crime Congress, which has been held every five years since 1955, is the largest and most diverse gathering of policymakers, practitioners, the academia, and the civil society in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. The Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC), in conjunction with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the National Institute of Justice of the United States Department of Justice (NIJ), hosted Workshop 4: Current crime trends, recent developments and emerging solutions, in particular new technologies as means for and against crime. Dr. Hankyun Kim (Senior Research Fellow) served as the panel 2 moderator and Dr. Taegyung Gahng (Research Fellow) delivered a presentation on ‘Ethical consideration in artificial intelligence and robotics’.
