As we progress into post-industrial society, newer and massive risks that are prolonged and internalized will cause threat and instability. The scale of crimes committed are not confined, but global and integrated in its character. The methodology of these crimes are original, highly sophisticated, and systemized by advancement of science and technology. The Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) was established in 1989 as a government-sponsored research institute on crime and criminal justice with the mission of conducting research on crime prevention and criminal justice. KIC has over 50 researchers and 20 administrative staff members and has published more than 1,000 research reports in the field of criminology, criminal justice and criminal law. Since 1989, the KIC is an active participant of the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime Programme Network Institute (UNPNI) in conducting a variety of joint research, international conferences, and publications for cooperative criminal justice measures. The Selected Essays of the Korean Institute of Criminology Research Projects (2011) is a collection of the 14 most qualified research conducted in the year 2011.
